APV Heating Services was contacted regarding a barn conversion annexe in Lamberhurst that had been without heating for approximately 18 months. The existing oil Combi boiler had failed and was no longer operational, leaving the property without reliable heating or hot water.
The annexe had been converted around 15 years ago and features wet underfloor heating throughout, making it well suited to low-temperature heating systems. However, replacing the old oil boiler presented two key challenges:
With space at a premium inside the property, installing a traditional upright cylinder simply wasn’t an option.
After assessing the property and existing system, we recommended installing a modern air source heat pump, an efficient and future-proof alternative to oil heating that works perfectly with underfloor heating systems.
To overcome the space constraints for the hot water cylinder, we worked closely with the customer to develop a practical and creative solution. The customer constructed a purpose-built shelf within the bathroom, allowing us to install a horizontal unvented hot water cylinder neatly and securely in the available space.
Externally, a solid concrete base was required for the heat pump unit. The customer assisted by preparing the base in advance, helping streamline the installation process.
The system was professionally installed, commissioned, and fully signed off, ensuring compliance and optimal performance.
The property now benefits from:
Most importantly, the customer was delighted to have their heating restored after 18 months without it and even happier with the efficiency, and performance of their new system.
