We recently replaced and upgraded the downstairs radiators for a customer in Pembury whose existing radiators were old and no longer providing enough heat. The work covered the main downstairs living areas and included adding a radiator to a kitchen extension that had previously been left without one. My colleague Andy and I completed the installation in one day, working with the existing pipework set into the screeded floors.
The customer had lived in the Pembury property for several years and wanted to improve the heating throughout the downstairs living areas, including the kitchen, living room and study.
The existing radiators were old and weren't giving out enough heat. There was also a particular problem with the kitchen. When the property had been extended a couple of years earlier, an additional radiator hadn't been installed in the new kitchen area. This had effectively been overlooked during the extension work and meant that part of the kitchen could feel particularly cold.
The customer therefore decided to upgrade the downstairs radiators and, at the same time, finally add the additional radiator that the kitchen extension had been missing.
There was an important practical consideration with this job. The existing heating pipes came up through screeded floors, so we couldn't simply move the pipework to wherever we wanted. The photographs show several of the existing radiator positions and the fixed pipework we had to work with.
My colleague Andy and I carried out the radiator replacement in one day. We changed around seven radiators across the downstairs of the property, including radiators serving the kitchen, living areas and study.
The photographs show a mixture of the old radiators before removal, the rooms during the work and the new white panel radiators once installed. They also show the different sizes and positions we had to accommodate throughout the property.
Because the existing heating pipes were within the screeded floors, altering their position would have meant considerably more disruption. Instead, we worked with the existing pipe positions and used radiator valve extensions where required to connect the new radiators to the existing heating pipework.
This allowed us to upgrade the radiators without unnecessarily disturbing the screeded floors.
One of the most important parts of the job was installing the additional radiator in the kitchen extension. This gave the extended area a heat source that had been missing since the extension was originally completed.
Once all of the new radiators had been fitted and connected, we refilled the heating system and carried out a heat test to make sure everything was operating correctly.
The improvement was immediately noticeable. During our heat test, the downstairs of the property became very warm and the new radiators were giving out the heat the customer had been missing from the old system.
The customer was extremely pleased with the result and commented that, despite having lived in the house for a good few years, he had never known it to feel so warm.
The kitchen extension now also has the additional radiator it had been missing, helping to provide heat to an area that had previously felt cold.
Overall, this radiator replacement in Pembury gave the customer a much more effective heating setup downstairs, while allowing us to retain the existing pipework within the screeded floors and avoid unnecessary disruption.
