APV Heating Services recently completed phase one of a larger heating project in Wadhurst, where our customer is carrying out a complete renovation of their home.
As part of the renovation, a new single-storey extension has been built at the rear of the property. The main part of the extension will become a new kitchen, with a separate new bedroom alongside it. While the remainder of the house will continue to be heated by radiators, the customer chose wet underfloor heating for both of these new areas.
APV Heating Services was asked to take care of the underfloor heating installation, with a new boiler installation planned as the next phase of the project.
Timing is particularly important when installing underfloor heating as part of a building project. The pipework needs to be installed, tested and ready before the screed can be laid.
The customer's builder had already prepared the floor and installed the insulation, which meant everything was ready for us to begin the UFH installation.
As the photographs show, we then installed the pipe fixing rails across the insulated floor, providing secure and consistent positioning for the underfloor heating pipework.
We installed the red underfloor heating pipework across both the new kitchen extension and adjoining bedroom, carefully laying out the individual circuits to provide good coverage across the areas that need heating.
The finished installation can be seen particularly well in the wide photographs, with the pipework running across the insulated floor before looping back towards the manifold.
The system was connected to a five-circuit underfloor heating manifold, which can be clearly seen in the photographs. The manifold installation incorporates individual flow meters for the circuits together with a pump set, ready for the completed heating system.
Having a central manifold allows the different underfloor heating circuits to be brought together in one accessible location and will form an important part of the finished heating installation.
Once all the underfloor heating pipework had been laid and connected to the manifold, the next important job was to fill and pressure test the system.
This is particularly important on this type of installation because the pipework is about to be permanently covered by the new floor screed. We therefore wanted to know that the circuits were sound before the builders moved on to the next stage.
The photographs show the manifold during the filling process and also provide a close-up of the pressure gauge while the system was under test.
Once testing was complete, the underfloor heating was left filled and pressurised ready for the screed to be laid the following day.
With the wet underfloor heating installed, connected, filled and pressure tested, phase one of this Wadhurst heating project was complete.
The builders could now continue with the renovation and lay the new screed over the UFH pipework, keeping the overall project moving according to schedule.
Our work at this property isn't finished yet, though.
APV Heating Services will be returning in a few weeks to install the customer's new boiler, which will form the next phase of the heating upgrade. Once that work is complete, the new boiler will work alongside the underfloor heating in the extension and the radiator system serving the remainder of the property.
It's a good example of how we can work alongside a customer's builder during a larger renovation, completing each part of the heating installation at the right stage of the project.
If you're renovating or extending a property in Wadhurst or the surrounding areas and are considering wet underfloor heating, APV Heating Services can help with the installation as part of a wider heating upgrade.
Whether it's underfloor heating for a new extension, kitchen renovation or larger home improvement project, we can work alongside your builder to make sure the heating installation is completed at the correct stage.
